THE DANGER OF THE MEDICINES WITHOUT ORIENTATION
Everyday veterinarians come across problems daily caused by medicines supplied by the proprietors to their pet.
When an animal is sick, his/her proprietor feels an irresistible will independently of trying to medicate him/it. That usually becomes a disaster. When buying a suitable medicine for a store clerk or of drugstore, the chance of causing irreparable damages to the organism of the animalzinho is much larger than his/her concerned owner can imagine. When the animal gets if it cures, we know that he got well in spite of the medicine. He/she had luck.
A good example can remove from the medicines to the base of Diclofenaco (sodic or potássico) like Voltaren or Cataflan (suitable for humans). Those medicines until they can take the animal to the death for peptic ulcers and intestinal when supplied by the proprietors. An innocent AAS can cause a devastating gastritis and medicines to the sulfa base can cause the death of his/her cat. Many other examples can be mentioned, but the intention of this article is to alert and not to change in a summary.
An interesting and sad case happened at a clinic of São Paulo. A cat had been run over and it had been taken to the clinic some hours later. To the exam, the veterinarian didn't verify any lesion bone, muscular or of skin. In other words, THE animalzinho had escaped unhurt of the running over. In the end of the day the animal returned with vómito with blood following by diarrhea, also with blood. All the attempts in saving the animal were frustrated. When talking with the proprietor, the veterinarian he/she discovered that the same had given Sodic Diclofenaco soon for the animalzinho after the running over. In the attempt of removing him/her the pain, the proprietor caused his/her death.
The case above is truthful and very sad, and it is only one among the thousands that happen daily at our country. It falls to the proprietors the ownership responsible of the animal and, whenever this is sick, to consult a Veterinary Doctor, never to ask to the neighbor or the clerk.
Keep well: if his/her shoe holes, light to the shoemaker; if his/her car breaks, light to the mechanic; if his/her animal is sick, light to the Veterinarian
