26/12/2003 - due to several requests for E-mail, where we found several internautas with you doubt of how to make a childbirth, we decided to write this matter, to help them to understand how the Childbirth of a dog works.

The opinions registered in this article represent only the way like us acted, could differentiate of other breeders, we don't want to create a truth, we just acted in the way how we registered here. 

Firstly, we will deal with the matter "How to be READY to DO A CHILDBIRTH." 

In the last week of gestation it should already be been with everything prepared, in case the nestlings are born before the time, see some of the items that you should leave below prepared for the Childbirth. 

IMPORTANT: In case if it doesn't feel prepared for you to do the Childbirth, invite an experienced breeder to help you, or even the veterinarian. OCITOCINA is used to increase the contractions, there are controversies on the use (need) the form of use of her (dosage), find out to I respect with his/her Veterinarian, don't medicate his/her dog without supervision of your Veterinarian.

Car prepared with towels and newspapers in case it is necessary to take the female to a clinic with urgency;

The place where she will have their nestlings should be properly sterilized and clean;

Box Maternidade it should be clean, it exempts of bacteria, and lined of Newspaper, for the Mom to begin to arrange her "nest"

Newspapers to keep the place where she will have the nestlings always clean during the labor; 

Garbage can for the dirty and material newspapers that will be used during the childbirth;

A smaller little box with soft towel to put the nestlings while the mother is in labor of the other nestlings;

A Scale for you to weigh the nestlings in the moment of the birth; 

A clock to control the time of childbirth, and the interval among the births;

A lamp or heater to be put close the box of the nestlings in cold weather

Thermometer, to measure to room temperature (Delivery room)

Thermometer, to measure to room temperature (Box Maternidade);

If the wethaer is hot puts a fan for the mother;

Manual thermometer to accompany the temperature of the body of the Female;

Surgical gloves

Dental floss, or line 10, to tie the umbilical cords;

Antiseptic to disinfect the cut umbilical cord (we used Povidine);

Towels and soft cloths for they be changed 2 times or more a day, in the box where will be mother and nestlings; 

A borrifador with Alcohol, to sterilize the hands in the turn, in case you must to leave the "Delivery room"; 

Medicines, Ergotrat;

Ampicilina (Antibiotic);

Besides Ocitocina (Only with authorization of the Veterinary Doctor); 

Luftal, in case you need to help in the breast-feeding with Chuquinha;

Syringe with needle, in case it is necessary the application of OCITOCINA;

Colored ribbons of Satin to mark the nestlings, with different colors, in order to distinguish them later; 

Tweezers properly sterilized, to arrest the umbilical cord;

cuts properly sterilized, to cut the Umbilical cord

A "feeding bottle", in case it is necessary to help the mom to breastfeed  

A blackboard, where you can make annotations during and after the childbirth;
